Early Bird - Making creative ideas fly
The animal photography side of my business has become really popular and I can photograph your pet, dog, cat,
horse or any other animal in action! You can see all my latest photos on my Smug Mug website: sandyanimalphotographer.smugmug.com
As a dog photographer, I love getting to know you and your pets and taking them out into the countryside to frolick through meadows or splash in streams.
As a cat photographer, I have always had cats in my life and understand it will take more time to get them to trust me and relax for a photo shoot.
As a horse photographer, I have years of experience of photographing people with their horses and out in the fields.
Tracey and Rynardt Venter, who are my dear friends, have given me the honour of letting me get up
close and personal to the Friesian horses in their care at any time of the day. I also take commissions (Special Black Horses rate) for people wanting photographs of them riding or driving the Friesian Horses at their Cartmel-based - Black Horses Friesian Stud.
I am available for events and I regularly photograph shows including the CLA Game Fair, Lowther Show, Westmorland County Show, Cartmel Show and Witherslack Horse Show, to name just a few.
In 2007 I started my own freelance business, The Early Bird Design, combining all that I love about photography,
design, illustration and writing. Currently I balance my time between photographing animals in action and creating illustrations and designs for tourist attractions and books. I am also a freelance journalist at The Westmorland Gazette, writing lifestyle features for their niche products, magazines and supplements.
I am fortunate to live near Cartmel in the English Lake District National Park, which provides me with endless
inspiration in every changing season.
I am a curiosity-driven photographer and artist and I have never lost the childlike wonder I have for nature and
our incredible planet.
Continually searching for a different way of looking, I love finding beauty and opportunities in even the most
challenging or mundane situations.
I have a BA (hons) Fine Art degree, and I have 18 years experience of working for leading Cumbrian charitable
trusts, arts organisations, historic houses and museums in a senior role as a designer, photographer,
illustrator and PR & marketing director.
I regularly work with Tracey Venter at Cartmel's Black Horses Friesian Stud, photographing people, who enjoy
countryside rides and carriage drives as part of the extremely popular Friesian Experience -
Follow our adventures and see recent photos on the Friesian Experience Facebook page.
I used to design websites and I still manage websites I have created on behalf of a few select clients.
I no longer offer a web design service, so I can concentrate on my passion for photography, illustration and writing.
If you have an idea that you want to turn into a reality, or just fancy a chat, do not hesitate to get in touch.

I am mesmerized by the infinitesimal gradations of Lakeland light that cast a magical radiance over my canine and equine subjects.
The best pictures happen when people are unaware of my presence. I like to keep in the background to get natural shots of a horse and rider sharing an intimate moment, or a dog in his element. You won't hear me shouting out 'smile'. If I'm doing my job properly you won't even notice I'm there.

Your brand values will always be be at the forefront of everything I produce.
A good design should not detract from your product or service, but enhance it in a clear, concise and elegant way. This identity can then be seamlessly applied to printed brochures, website and social media presence.
My passion for people and animals drives me to interview and photograph people from all walks of life - from vets and farriers to restauranteurs and local personalities.
As a wordsmith, I enjoy producing clear, concise copy to quickly convey a message. I am no stranger to turning work around on a sixpence to meet tight deadlines!
